GecKo research & publishing tracks the latest developments in advanced telecommunications markets. It publishes market data and news on a series of web sites, providing the information to the Internet community at no charge.
Presently, GecKo maintains studies on the following markets: data over cable networking (cable modems), cable telephony (circuit-switched HFC telephony), and IP telephony (voice and fax telecommunications over IP networks). For each market tracked, GecKo has established an electronic newsletter that is published online and distributed via e-mail to members of its mailing lists.
Market data on voice and data over cable along with the corresponding newsletters are published within GecKo's flagship site, the CATV CyberLab. IP telephony market research and news is published on the IP xStream web site.
In addition to its main areas of study, GecKo provides a portal to the cable industry via the CATV CyberLab web site. The site features a comprehensive Internet directory of cable telecommunications vendors and providers. Interactivity and community functionality is supported through a web-integrated message board, a chat forum, and jobs, resumes and classifieds sections. The site also includes a section entitled High-Speed Helper, which serves as an information and support resource for cable modem users and those interested in the service.
GecKo is supported by corporate sponsorships. Sponsors receive recognition via hyperlinked advertisement banners that appear throughout GecKo's sites and publications. In the past three years, more than 20 companies have supported GecKo's work including the top five leading suppliers of cable modems, and the top three HFC telephony system vendors.
In late 1998, GecKo introduced web services including design, development and hosting. The services target companies that need to utilize the full suite of authoring tools for their Internet presence.
Initially formed in August 1995 as the CATV CyberLab, GecKo quickly established itself as the leading source of research and news for the markets that it tracks. The firm was able to build its status by collecting and analyzing market data and news on a daily basis and developing relationships with industry leaders.
Future markets to be added to the GecKo repertoire include data networking over satellite and wireless systems.
